I just realized that it has been two months since I did an update... although, now that I think about it, no one has asked me why there haven't been any updates so maybe no one reads this... so I guess I don't feel too guilty. :) In an effort to make sure that Emmy isn't the "neglected second child" that I claim to be, I will attempt an update for her sake.
Emmy is almost 4 months and is growing and developing by leaps and bounds. She is gaining more and more weight (12-13 lbs?). She has rolls and I LOVE them! Bella was always a skinny little thing and never really had rolls, but Emmy is making up for her. She's got rolls on her arms, legs, chin, wrists, you name it... this is, however, creating a problem in and of itself. She gets stuff (milk, spit up, lint, hair...) in her rolls and it can get pretty stinky some times. We still love those rolls and do our best to keep her as clean and fresh smelling as we can.
She LOVES to jump and jump and jump. And would rather be standing than sitting most of the time. She likes to be held upright and/or slightly tipped forward. She HAS to know what is going on around her and will most likely cry if you try to tip her back or (heaven forbid) lay her on her back. Some times we can get her to lay on her back under her play mat, but it usually doesn't last long and she usually wants you to entertain her the whole time (which kind of defeats the purpose). This has also become a problem since, in the last few days, she has figured out how to roll from her tummy to her back. The problem arises when she flips herself onto her back and then can't roll back the other way. So she gets stuck... and mad... it's no fun. I keep wanting to turn her back over, but how is she ever going to learn to roll back?
We are currently living at my parents house so Emmy sleeps in our room. This has good and bad qualities; I can get to her if she wakes up... but I think she's figured this out too and continues to wake up two, some times three, times a night.
We are excited to try some solid food in the next few weeks, but for the moment Emmy loves milk and formula. But I think she'll pretty much eat anything she can get in her mouth.
And she definitely loves to put everything she can get her hand on into her mouth. If there isn't something in there already (bottle, pacifier, toy...) you can bet that her hand is in her mouth. We should have know this from the start since she had a sore on her hand when she was born from sucking on her hand in utero. She loves her pacifier though and I'd rather have her be sucking on that than her thumb or finger, since I can eventually take that away (it's a little harder to take away her finger...).
Her big sister loves her... some times a little too much, I think. Bella loves to get right in her face. Emmy usually finds this hilarious, but for me it's a little too close for comfort. Every once in a while Emmy will grab a big handful of Bella's hair, so maybe Bella will keep her distance a little... maybe... but I doubt it. Emmy has finally started paying attention to her and Bella can usually get a laugh or two out of Em.
Em loves to talk (in fact she's talking to the animals on her swing right now...). She's continually making noises. One of her favorite noises to make is a screech! Her nicknames change between hawk, eagle and pterodactyl (though her usual nickname is Bug) depending on the noise she's making. It's pretty funny and I think she might think that what she's doing is talking because if you do it back to her, she'll stop and listen to you.
That's it for now... we'll see if I can get some pictures up soon.
